My Recommendations

What I should have did differently was ask more 9th graders more questions, and I think that Decatur High School should have a class that teaches Italian and Ebonics because I think they are interesting to learn and speak.

My Conclusion

My conclusion is that more students in the 9th grade speak more than one language, and also that more students in the 9th grade speak more English and Spanish than any other language that are spoken.

This graph is to show the percentage of the people that speak different languages, and 81% of the people speak more than one language, and 19% only speak one language.

Bringing up Baby Bilingual

In this story there's a man name Jayme Simoes, and he spoke English and Portuguese. When he left Portuguese he went back to Chicago and lost his second language for 3 years. So in order for him to get his second language back he spent the whole summer in Portuguese. Then he got married and he's hoping that his toddler son Marcus will grow up to be bilingual also. Mr. Simoes is now teaching his son Portuguese and they have traveled to Portuguese twice. He reads, speak, and listen to music in Portuguese. Now Marcus knows how to say hello and bye in Portuguese.

My Research Question

1. Do you think all the languages at Decatur High School are spoken the same way?
2. D you make fun of how other people talk?
3. How many different languages do you think are spoken at Decatur High School?
4. Do you have a secret language that you and your friend(s) speak?
5. Do you like the way that you talk?

My Research Goals

I want to know more about why some people have racist opinions about how others speak. I want to know more about this because the movie that we watched in Mrs. Bergman class this man had a racist thought about how black people talk and I want to know if other people are like that.

My Language Beliefs

My language belief is that you should be able to talk to anyone without being made fun of. I don't think that people should be racist about how someone talks.
